South Dakota Lawmaker Reintroduces Bitcoin Reserve Bill

Updated today

Jan 28 — South Dakota State Representative Logan Manhart reintroduced a bill on Tuesday aimed at allowing the state to invest a portion of public funds in Bitcoin.

Designated HB 1155 proposes amending state statutes to allow the State Investment Council to allocate up to 10% of public funds to Bitcoin. The bill differs only slightly from a similar proposal Manhart introduced in 2025, which was shelved and never signed into law.

If passed, South Dakota would become the latest U.S. state—following Texas, Arizona, and New Hampshire—to legislate for cryptocurrency or Bitcoin reserves.
